What's Tails?

You can skip this part if you want. Tails is like a computer that runs from the USB drive you have, and when you stop using it it leaves no traces of you ever having used it (except if you set up persistent storage). For more information on how Tails works, visit here. Persistent storage can be set up though not required to hold data on the USB drive that is encrypted with a password that you will set up.

The Gear

The only thing you need is an internet connection, and an 8 gigabyte USB drive, no less, and it can be larger than 8 gigabytes. This will have to be dedicated to just using the Tails operating system.

Installation

For the official Tails installation guide please visit here, though I will also attempt to explain how to install it here. First you will download the .iso file from the website. Then you can optionally verify the image. The website recommends the balena Etcher software, but you could also use rufus. Both of these are software that will install the .iso image file into your USB drive. In both of these pieces of software you'd select your USB drive and then an image file, or vice versa. Pretty sure you can leave everything else as default and then flash which will begin the process. Boom you're done, good job!

How to use Tails

Now that you've installed Tails, you need to run it. I will now give instructions for Windows as I don't know what the process is for Mac. You need to press the Windows key, then hold shift and click the restart button at the same time. A blue screen should pop up after a minute, and you need to click "Use a device". From there you should select something that says "USB" or "Removable Device". There is a chance it won't work, so just start up your computer again, hold shift and restart and try that again.

Now a new screen should pop up, you could leave it alone and it should select the latest version of Tails and should boot you in automatically. After that there should be a button called start tails and you can start using it. Before this you will also have the option to set up persistent storage, which I recommend you do if you want to store passwords and cryptocurrency on it. I higly recommend using a mnemonic password like this. Use words to make a story, as its harder to crack a password like this. Use maybe at least 7 words for best security. You can also add leet speak or extra symbols like a * or &.

You will now have to connect to the internet, any will be fine, and when you do Tails will automatically connect you to The Onion Router (tor) which will anonymize your connection. After it does so, you can open the tor browser. Before you do anything, you need to click the shield icon in the top right and select the security to maximum protection. This makes it so there's no chance* (maybe like a 0.0001% chance, but that's if the feds create and look at tor relays) of you getting caught. After this you may do what you wish, though you probably might want to visit a hub that contains links to other interesting websites. I cannot give direct links, but you can find the following ones in a few google searches. The first is Tor Taxi, the second is Dark.Fail. I also reccommend reading the DarkNetMarket Bible that is found on Tor Taxi, it teaches some basics on using the deep web. I also recommend checking out Dread, which is a deep web forum.

That should be everything. Also if a website asks you to turn off your protections to use javascript leave it, it's not safe. When you're done, just hit the power button in the top right and select shutdown. All your activities are now untracable. Worst case scenario you can also rip out the USB drive out of your computer but this should only be done in emergencies.
